Why does the tax line on my order say incl.?

On some orders the tax line shows the word incl. and the subtotal looks lower than my product prices.

"incl." means your prices include tax. The tax was already inside the price the customer paid, not added on top.

When an order was placed with tax-inclusive prices, the order page shows:

  • Subtotal as the amount before tax, which is why it looks lower than your product prices
  • Each tax line marked "incl."
  • The Total unchanged, equal to what the customer paid

If your prices don't include tax, the tax is added on top and the "incl." label doesn't appear. This follows the Product prices already include tax (inclusive) box under Settings → Store Settings → Manage Tax.
