What is the Canonical URL field on a product, and when should I fill it in?

I sell the same item under two product listings and someone told me to use a canonical URL.

A canonical URL tells search engines which page is the "main" one when several pages show almost the same content. Search engines then focus on that page instead of treating the copies as competing pages.

Leave it blank for most products. Wcart uses the product's own address.

If you have two near-identical products, open the copy and:

  1. Scroll to Search engine listing and click + Edit SEO if needed.
  2. In Canonical URL, paste the full web address of the main product page.
  3. Click Save.

To clear it later, empty the field and save again.
