I set a Default Description in SEO Settings, but Google shows different text. Why?

I wrote a nice description under SEO Settings, but search results still show my old text.

Your homepage description is taken from Website Description in Settings → Web Settings → General Settings first. The Default Description under Settings → SEO Settings → SEO Settings is only used when Website Description is empty.

The store name works the same way. Site Title in General Settings is used before the Site Title in SEO Settings.

So either update Website Description in General Settings and click Submit, or clear it there so your SEO Default Description is used. Google then needs to visit your store again before the new text appears in results. That can take a few days.
